The unique NAC-PAC Red™ system offers all the advantages
of the traditional NAC-PAC™ products and includes a pH indicator.
By adding the pH indicator to the NaOH reagents, the pH of the
specimen can be monitored and adjusted with proper neutralizing
buffers to a neutral pH. The pH of the decontaminated specimen
should be less then 8.1 immediately after buffering and held
between 6.9 to 7.1 for culturing. This insures pH tolerance for the
maximum survival of Mycobacteria. This can be best accomplished
with the use of NAC-PAC Red™ followed by neutralization with
either XPR-plus™ Buffer or NPC-67™ Buffer and then followed with
the Pellet Resuspension Buffer.

Each NAC-PAC™ System contains all pre-matched reagents
necessary for the decontamination and digestion of specimens
for the recovery of Mycobacterium spp. Each NAC-PAC™ is
packaged with five ampules of premeasured NALC
(N-acetyl-L-cysteine) and five bottles of premixed and filtered
TB Digestion Solution (Sodium Hydroxide [NaOH] with Trisodium
Citric Acid [TSCA]). These ready-to-use reagents eliminate time-
consuming hours of weighing, pH adjusting & filtering and requires
no additional measuring or mixing vessels.
