Reduce False Positives
Sputum smear microscopy remains a widely used diagnostic for AFB. Of the 767 million patient evaluations performed worldwide each year, approximately 88 million are sputum smears.1
Low-quality reagents or unfiltered stains can account for poor microscopy,2 which may result in failure to detect persons with active tuberculosis or cause unnecessary anti-TB treatment for non-TB cases. In addition, errors in reading sputum microscopy may result in prolonged treatment, or unnecessary treatment termination, which predisposes the development of drug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB).3,4
Alpha-Tec’s high-quality Non-fluorescent and Fluorescent primary stains are filtered to minimize particulate matter, making accurate identification easier and reducing the chance of false-positive results.
Specifications:
- Filtered primary stains
- Fluorescent and non-fluorescent
- Available as individual bottles, cases, or sets
